According to Google, tomorrow, well the 5th of October in the US, is Marshmallow day. Google advised they would begin rolling out the update to the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player. So how will you know when the update is live? The answer is Pushbullet.

The usual order of release is Google pushes updates to the Android Open Source Project, we then see Factory images uploaded to the Android developers Nexus Factory Images page, before finally seeing updates pushed to devices via Over-The-Air (OTA) updates.

A while back, reddit user icefall5 created pushbullet channels for all the devices that will receive the update all you need is Pushbullet – either the Desktop App or browser extension or the Android App – and then subscribe to the appropriate channel below:

Of course the distribution of OTA updates for the devices is most important, although you can flash your Nexus with a factory image without wiping if you edit the flashall.bat script file and remove the ‘-w’ option (-w wipes the user partition). If you do get a notification that an OTA is available, make sure you use our ‘How-To’ on capturing the link to the OTA update on the Google server. Once we have the OTA update link, you can use our How-To on sideloading the update to your device.

We’re watching AOSP now to find out when the upload begins, so stay tuned….
