ZTE Boost INDY & Telstra Smart Black Banner

ZTE Australia has added two new mobile phones to its line up of Australian devices, as Boost and Telstra prepaid offerings.

The two mobile phones, which are the Boost INDY (ZTE B816) and the Telstra Smart Plus (ZTE T816), aren’t going to win any awards nor are they really anything special. They’re destined for prepaid, with the devices quietly added to the ZTE Mobiles, Telstra and Boost websites.

Boost INDY (ZTE B816)

The Boost INDY is a basic smartphone that only supports Boost/Telstra Next G 3G network and spec wise isn’t anything special. The full list of specs include:

  • 4.0″ TFT WVGA Display (854 x 480)
  • 1.0GHz dual core ARM Cortex A7 CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB (with 2GB user space available), expandable to 32GB via microSD
  • 2MP Rear Camera, VGA front facing
  • Android 4.4 (KitKat)
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v3.0, GPS
  • 1200 mAh Li-ion Replaceable Battery
  • Network Connectivity:
    • 2G: 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
    • 3G: 850, 2100 MHz
  • Dimensions: 125 x 64 x 9.8mm. 123g

As stated, spec wise there really isn’t anything remarkable but considering its a $50 phone, it could be a lot worse. We’re really seeing that bottom end of feature-phones being pushed away in favour of low-end Androids, and that can only be a good thing for new entrants to the mobile market.

The Boost INDY (ZTE B816) is available now through the Boost website and Boost resellers for $49.

Telstra Smart Plus Black (ZTE T816)

The last mobile ZTE has added is the Telstra Smart Plus Black (ZTE T816), which again is nothing really special or fantastic spec wise. The full list of specs include:

  • 4.0″ TFT WVGA Display (800×480)
  • 1.0GHz dual core ARM Cortex A7 CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB Memory (with 2GB user space available) expandable to 32GB via microSD
  • 2MP Rear Camera, VGA front facing
  • Android 4.4 (KitKat)
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v3.0, GPS
  • 1200 mAh Li-ion replaceable battery
  • Network Connectivity:
    • 2G: 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
    • 3G: 850, 2100 MHz
  • Dimensions: 125 x 64 x 9.8mm. 123g

The astute will notice that it’s exactly the same phone as the Boost Indy, with a different model number (the T indicating that it’s for Telstra, not B for Boost). Again, at $49 it’s a cheap smartphone to get started with on Telstra pre-paid, and its available now through both the Telstra pre-paid website or your local Telstra store for $49.
