samsung-galaxy-update

Hot on the heels of Google’s release of the May 2016 security update for Android, Samsung has released said update for its Galaxy S7 range. This is kind of big news, in a way, because it represents a delay of no more than a few days from release to Samsung actually making it available to end users.

The update has arrived on friend of the site Geoff Fieldew’s Galaxy S7, so if you’ve got an un-branded Galaxy S7 (i.e. not bought from a carrier) you might just have the update waiting for you now. If you did buy from a carrier, it might take a little time for them to approve the update and pass it on to you, though we understand Geoff’s phone was sourced from Optus, so your mileage may vary!

We’ve checked our office Galaxy S7 Edge, and confirmed that the update is available for those devices too, as per the screenshots below. We’re installing it now, but the important thing is that you can probably download it and install it on your device now too.

If you’ve got a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge, it might be time to keep an eye on your notifications to see if the update has arrived for you. Congratulations, you’re at (close to) the bleeding edge of Android security!
