HTC have announced the Desire 10 Pro and the Desire 10 Lifestyle today. The mid-tier devices are emphasising their attention to design, along with their all metal construction in an attempt to distinguish themselves in the competitive mid-price market.
The Pro model is the more premium or the two sporting an FHD 5.5″ display, fingerprint sensor, 20MP rear camera and a 13MP front-facing ‘selfie’ camera. The Lifestyle drops the screen resolution to HD, loses the fingerprint sensor and the cameras are reduced to a 13MP rear shooter and a 5MP front facing. The two models also have different core processors, RAM and storage configurations.
With the lifestyle using a 2013 Snapdragon 400 – aka the same chip that used to be in Android Wear device, and the Pro model sporting a Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 processor it’s unclear how these two devices will be received. Of course, the real proof of any device is in how it handles and not the spec list. It’s good to see both models support NFC for mobile payments, as well as other useful NFC things. It is interesting the USB C hasn’t made the jump into the mid-tier. I can’t imagine it costs significantly more, it looks like OEMs are saving this as a ‘premium connector’, which in the end just slows adoption.
