Attention Nexus 6 owners, your over month long nightmare is finally over with Google posting the factory image and OTA update for the phone on their website.
The update is for Android 7.0.0, build NBD90Z and appears to be a part of their rollout of the October security update. Google announced Nougat on August 23, but it’s taken 41 days for Nexus 6 owners to get their update.
While Google has never advised why the hold up with the Nougat update for the phone, as the last platform update for the Nexus 6, owners are probably interested in Google ‘getting it right’ for the phone. There will of course be security updates for the Nexus 6 for another year, but this is it for the Nexus 6 in terms of OS updates. Issues with power drain and bootloops on the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are thought to be the reason behind Google holding back the update, but with the release now live hopefully those issues are resolved.
The Factory Image and OTA update files are live on the Nexus Files website, if you’re a Nexus 6 owner though and have a little more patience you may get an update notification in the very near future.
