Since the announcement of Android 4.2 which brough Miracast capability to the new Nexus flagship phone the Nexus 4, a working Miracast display adapter which you can plug into your existing TV has been the holy grail of Nexus 4 owners all over the world.

The PTV3000 was originally seen as having Miracast support, however a large proportion of owners had issues with the device. Netgear has finally solved the issues by releasing a firmware upgrade for their now Miracast Certified Wireless TV Adapter. The update brings about compatibility with 6 Android devices in total including the Nexus 4 :

  • Samsung Galaxy S3 (Android 4.1.1 or above)
  • Samsung Galaxy Note II
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
  • LG Optimus G (Android 4.0.4 or above)
  • Google Nexus 4 (Android 4.2.1)
  • Sony Xperia (various models with Android 4.0.4 or above)

Best news of all the is that the PTV3000 is coming to Australia. The adapter is currently listed as ‘Coming Soon’ on the Netgear website. I spoke with Netgear Australia who advised that the PTV3000 will be making its way down under at some stage during Q2 this year. Unfortunately they did not have local pricing information and advised that the price for the adapter will be confirmed closer to the release date.

I can’t wait for Miracast availability to expand. The list of Miracast certified devices is growing quite quickly over at the Wi-Fi Alliance with TVs, BluRay Players and just plain adapters being certified rapidly, now all we need are release dates and prices for these devices.
