Huawei Mate 10 is set to be announced on October 16 and barely a day goes by where we do not hear some new snippet of information surrounding Huawei’s next flagship.
So many details surrounding the Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Pro are “known” already. Today Chinese social media site Weibo has been host to new information on the Mate 10 Pro. The new leak says that the Mate 10 Pro will have a 6.0 inch display with a 2K resolution and an 18:9 display aspect resolution. The display will make up 89.89% of the front of the phone. The camera will also arrive with a 4200mAh battery and a f/1.6 aperture camera. There is also Huawei’s superfast 35W charging and IP67 water and dust resistance.
These seem fairly ho-hum when you consider the other information garnered from the leaks. As I have been saying (mostly hoping) the Huawei Mate 10 Pro will include an under-display fingerprint sensor. The rumour of the under-glass fingerprint sensor is supported by early render leaks showing the lack of a fingerprint sensor on the back and front of the device. No other big name manufacturer has managed to get this working accurately, Apple included, so it will be interesting to see if Huawei do in fact manage to pull this off.
The stock standard Mate 10 specs leaked also show a 2K, 18:9 display display which “only” covers 84% of the front of the device. It also has a 4200mAh battery, IP67 water resistance, iris scanning and a Leica dual camera with f/1.6 aperture. The fingerprint sensor is their usual capacitive sensor located on the lower bezel of the phone.
The displays have also leaked today showing the two displays side by side. This shows both the Pro and the standard Mate 10 are in fact 18:9 and only one has the fingerprint sensor located on the lower bezel. You can see this in the image above.
These leaks seem to match up fairly closely to everything else we have heard thus far. Impressive specs and you would expect to pay for that. Today’s leak also has some prices (in Chinese Yuan) which show that Huawei are pricing this at the top end of the market.
The Mate 10 will come in 4GB/64GB, 6GB/128GB and 6GB/256GB variants and will cost ¥4,299 ($814AU), ¥4,899 ($928AU) and ¥5,599 ($1060AU) respectively.
The Mate 10 Pro is a next step up, with possibly being the first big player to introduce an under-display fingerprint sensor. It will come in 6GB/64GB, 6GB/128GB, 6GB/256GB and 8GB/256GB variants. They will cost ¥5,499 ($1042AU), ¥6,199 ($1174AU), ¥6,899 ($1307AU) and ¥7,499 ($1420AU) respectively. The cost puts them right up there around the Samsung Note 8 range (especially once you add in Australia tax) but it seems that you may just be getting what you pay for.
There is also word that Huawei will also release a Porsche Design Mate 10 as they have done in previous years but we do not expect that to land on our shores any time soon. The Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro ARE expected to land here and be priced accordingly — we have heard rumours suggesting that the prices listed above are in fact indicative of what you would expect to pay for one of these flagship phones. Don’t forget the Kirin 970 is also the first chipset to have a NPU onboard and Huawei are set to leverage this throughout their software.
