Android Wear 2.0 has had an auspicious beginning to its life with many thinking that Google have gone somewhat backwards with the 2.0 version of their wearable OS. Slowly but surely Google has been improving it and with the new release of Android Wear 2.8 they have continued this improvement.

Via their Android Wear help page Google have announced the Android Wear 2.8 update with it currently undergoing a staged rollout which will take a few days to complete. For this reason not many people have received it yet, including myself. The changelog Google have provided is very limited, only listing two items:

  • Improved notification glanceability with a new layout which shows more of your message at a glance
  • Made the background darker for better readability

The darker background will indeed help to enhance the visualisation of any messages, especially on an OLED display where the blacks can be very black. 9to5Google and Android Police have had a couple of users send in pictures showing the darker background and it is a big difference to the previous grey background.

With it rolling out over the next few days keep an eye out for an update to the Android Wear app on the Play Store to download it. Drop us a message in the comments below when you have received the update with your thoughts on it.
