Following on from Telstra’s announcement earlier today of its first unlimited smartphone data plan, Vodafone has also released new unlimited plans which are available on 12 month SIM only contracts.

Unlike Telstra though, which includes 40 gigabytes of data and then unlimited data restricted to 1.5 megabits per second, Vodafone offers three different plans including unlimited data. The difference between the plans is that they include a different amount of high-speed data before the unlimited slower speed data kicks in. Here’s what they look like:

  • $60 per month includes 40GB of high-speed data
  • $80 includes 70GB of high-speed data
  • $100 includes a whopping 120GB of high-speed data before speed limits

Each of these plans includes a number of international call minutes and bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points. The plans are also available as SIM-only plans, and customers can opt to incorporate phone repayments into the plans for an extra cost depending on the handset selected.

Vodafone has confirmed that Red Roaming is indeed available on these new unlimited plans – however, only within the actual data inclusion. The unlimited 1.5 Mbps data is not available on Red Roaming, meaning that once you’ve exhausted your included data, you’ll be paying for extra – not using unlimited data at 1.5 Mbps as you would be in Australia.

We are waiting to hear more from Vodafone and we will share more with you once we have their official announcement. For the time being it looks like all the carriers are getting onto these unlimited plans.
