After a successful run with the Ticwatch S and E last year, Mobvoi have returned with a new smartwatch running Google’s Wear OS platform with the new Ticwatch Pro. It’s more expensive than previous models but it’s also packing more hardware including NFC, and an innovative new screen that could give you loads more battery life.

The Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro was announced earlier this year but is now on-sale through mobvoi.com/au for AUD369.99 with free shipping to most countries including Australia. The watch is available with either a silver or black crown encircling the 1.39″ 400×400 resolution display in a stainless steel and nylon case, with a dual button design and a silicone strap.

The Ticwatch Pro features an innovative new layered display technology that Mobvoi is patenting, which includes a low-power FSTN (film compensated Super Twisted Nematic) LCD Display which is transparent when not turned on, afixed on top of an OLED display.

The OLED display will function with ‘Smart Mode’ that incorporates all the features of Wear OS. The FSTN display on the other hand is for low-power use, with ‘Essential Mode’ where the watch will display the time, date, step counting, and heart rate monitoring. Mobvoi says they’re looking to add more functionality for Essential Mode, including distance traveled, calories burned, speed and cadence. Mobvoi estimate you’ll be able to get anywhere up to 30 days of battery life out of Essential Mode, while 2 days is the expected battery life for Smart Mode.

In terms of specs, Mobvoi will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 platform for the Ticwatch Pro, with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of on-board storage. You’ll get GPS/AGPS for tracking your runs/walk/cycling and a PPG Heart Rate Sensor on the rear, and for those wanting to do payments you’ll find NFC is finally on-board for use with Google Pay. Pankaj Kedia, senior director and business lead, smart wearables segment, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. said of the launch

The TicWatch Pro is an exciting entrant into the smartwatch segment, the fastest growing segment in wearables today”, said “We have been working closely with Mobvoi over the last 2 years and announced our first products in China last month. We are delighted that the TicWatch Pro is coming to the US. We are working with Mobvoi on new experiences, new products and are excited to support their global expansion and the many possibilities they are creating for consumers.

We found the Ticwatch S to be a great, well priced option when it comes to Wear OS, and while it’s still using the Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, the FSTN screen has us wondering if this could be a great option for those looking to go for extended times between charges. If you’re in the market for a new Wear OS watch, this could be the one. Head over to mobvoi.com/au to check it out.
