HMD Global’s latest Nokia handset, the Nokia 7.1, is now available to buy in Australia at JB Hi-fi and Harvey Norman stores.
The $499 handset features a compact 5.8-inch 19:9 notched display with Full HD+ resolution. This makes it refreshingly compact given the number of phones crossing the Ausdroid review desk recently that are over 6 inches.
The display is the first Nokia “PureDisplay” tech, which complies with the HDR10 standard – yep, you’ll be able to watch Netflix HDR shows (and other HDR content) on this device, pretty neat for a sub-$500 phone!
There’s a dual camera array on the back with a 12MP f/1.8 main camera and 5MP f/2.4 secondary, and some neat tricks in the camera software like slow motion video (which has provided some nice sample videos on our review unit) and live bokeh in-camera effects. You also get Motion photos, similar to Pixel 2 and Pixel 3. Both cameras feature Zeiss lenses.
Internally, you’ll find a Snapdragon 630 powering the show with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage (with MicroSD support up to 400GB). The battery is 3060mAh and the phone charges from USB C.
It’s running Android One, so it’s one of the most up-to-date phones on the market that doesn’t carry a Pixel in its name. The Android 9.0 Pie release isn’t ready for it just yet, but it is coming. The phone will receive three years of security updates and
If you’re looking to pick up the Nokia 7.1, you’ll find it in store today in “Gloss Midnight Blue” colour at JB Hi-fi and Harvey Norman. The receommended retail price is $499, but if you go onto JB’s $65 BYO plan they’ll sell you the phone for $199.
