Huawei, through their current woes with the US government, have been hard at work and have started rolling out the latest Android update to more of their devices.

Huawei’s version of Android 9.0 Pie in the form of EMUI 9 has been announced today for the following phones:

  • Huawei Mate 10 series
  • Mate 9 series
  • Mate RS
  • Mate 20 Lite
  • P20 series
  • P10 series
  • Nova 3 series

When the updates will be rolling out is unknown but if you own one of these keep an eye out for the OTA update notification and grab it while you can.

EMUI 9 brings their new enhancements on top of Android 9.0 to these phones, some of which are two years old. There are not many manufacturers who update phones that are two years old to the latest version of Android so when Huawei told me two years ago that they were going to bring more updates to their phones they weren’t wrong.

Some of the new features include the new navigation gestures, Huawei Share, the password vault, microSD card backups and new gaming tweaks. The updates bring the total of Huawei phones on Android 9.0 to 80 million and they expect it to rise to 100 million in the next month.

Hopefully the whole Huawei saga can be cleared up before too long and we can continue to see Huawei fully support their Android phones — and innovate with more Android phones — in the future. It is good to see them updating their phones even in what must be a very trying time for their company.
