While 2019 was the year of foldables that didn’t quite hit the mark, in 2020 they will be coming at us with a vengeance. Samsung is expected to announce a great many phones in the first part of this year, and one of them will be the Galaxy Z Flip.
Unlike last year’s Galaxy Fold, though, which expanded from a phone form factor to a tablet, the Galaxy Z Flip is a more traditional clamshell-style foldable, which will unfold to a phone size, and be smaller when folded.
The latest rumours about the Galaxy Z Flip suggest that it won’t be all that expensive, either, coming in at less than $US 1,500, or $2,000 locally. Considering the original Galaxy Fold was closer to $3,000 here, and the Mate X – although not launched – would’ve been significantly more again, the Galaxy Z Flip is shaping up to be a much more affordable foldable.
Beyond the pricing and form factor – rendered thanks to Lets Go Digital – there’s not too much else known just yet. There’s rumours the platform will be built on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 – 2019’s top flight performer – with a hole-punch front camera and a dual-lens rear camera.
Beyond this, I guess we’ll find out more in a few weeks when Samsung holds its annual Galaxy Unpacked event in February.
