Brazil will be the focus of the world in mid-June, when the 20th FIFA World Cup kicks off in São Paulo when Brazil plays Croatia. If you’re lucky enough to be there in person to see it, you’ll want to phone, text, tweet or tell someone who isn’t there about it. Luckily, Vodafone has today announced they’ve added Brazil to their list of countries covered under the Roam for $5 plan.
The addition of Brazil, brings the total list of countries supported to 47. The premise of the Roam for $5 is simple, pay $5 per day and use your phone just like you would if you were here at home. It’s a lot easier and simpler than trying to grab a local SIM card and then communicate your temporary number back to people who want to contact you.
Australia was one of the top 5 countries who in the world who applied for some of the 2.6 million 2014 FIFA World Cup tickets on offer, so there will definitely be some Aussies there.
Vodafone recognises the need to cover the World Cup for their customers with Chief Marketing Officer Kim Clarke saying
More than 80,000 Aussies applied for tickets in the first round alone so we are confident the demand for fair roaming rates for Brazil is there. We want our customers travelling to Brazil to be able to focus on the football, not worry about coming home to a massive phone bill.
So, if you’re heading to the World Cup (I am totally jealous) and you’re a Vodafone customer, you can simply add the $5 per day roaming to your plan as of the 23rd of April. $5 per day International roaming is now available on all their postpaid plans after customers demanded it, and Vodafone are definitely responsive to customers.
