Amazon has introduced Alexa+, a next-generation AI assistant powered by generative AI, designed to be more conversational, intelligent, and personalised. Alexa+ can manage homes, make reservations, track and discover new artists, shop online, and make suggestions based on user interests. Conversations with Alexa+ are intended to feel natural with an understanding colloquial expressions. It orchestrates across thousands of services and devices using “experts” to accomplish specific tasks.
Alexa+ is highly personalised, utilising purchase history, listening habits, and shipping addresses. Users can further customize it by sharing family recipes, important dates, and dietary preferences. It’s designed to be available when needed and fade into the background when not. Alexa+ can proactively suggest actions, such as starting a commute early due to heavy traffic or notifying users about sales on desired items.
Alexa+ can navigate the internet to complete tasks, such as arranging for oven repairs by finding a service provider and scheduling the repair. Alexa+ will be accessible in homes, offices, and cars through a new mobile app (available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store) and a browser-based experience at Alexa.com. Users can start a conversation on one device and continue it on another, with Alexa+ remembering the context.
Alexa+ will start rolling out in the in the next few weeks during an early access period, followed by a wider release over the coming months. Early access will be prioritised for Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21 device owners.
