Google has released the latest Android Distribution figures for the month of February, the list of statistics that help developers know which versions of Android they need to target. The list is only taking into account Android devices using Google Play, so there are still a large number of non-Google devices not taken into account.
The good news is that month-over-month, Android 5.0.x Lollipop doubled its market share, going from a relatively minor 1.6% to now 3.3% of Android users running the latest version of Android. KitKat saw small gains, now showing on 40.9% of devices, by far the most popular version of Android, except when compared against the sum total of the various versions of Jellybean which has 42.6% market share.
Gingerbread contines it’s decline, from once the most widely used version of Android, it’s now present on just 6.9% of devices. Ice-Cream Sandwich too saw a decline and Froyo remains at 0.4% market share.
