HTC hasn’t had the greatest year in the world when it comes to phones, their One M9 failed to impress and they’ve been slow to release Desire models here in Australia. But it seems, HTC has a new phone coming out which may look a little more like the iPhone than most people would like if the above pictures are to be believed.
The source is from Chinese social networking site Weibo, pointed at by Steve Hemmerstoffer from NoWhereElse.fr, who used the hashtags #HTCAero #HTCA9. The fortunes of HTC have been on a downward slope for a while, but earlier this year, newly installed CEO Cher Wang promised a premium device release for later this year, could this be what she was talking about?
The HTC Aero or A9 is rumoured to be powered by a Mediatek Helios X20 processor, which certainly looks good on paper, but fails to carry the more mainstream ‘Wow’ factor of the higher end Qualcomm processors, though with the Snapdragon 820 not due to launch until next year, the main option left would be the Snapdragon 810 which failed to impress in the HTC One M9 earlier this year.
There’s other specs rumoured for the phone, including 4GB of RAM, a 5.2″ QHD (2560×1440) resolution display and a 3500mAh battery, but we don’t have any further details at this time.
The very design of the phone would scream lawsuit if released outside of the Chinese market where the Mediatek processor that’s said to be powering the phone is more widely available and accepted, so this could be a minor release for that market.
Is there going to be another high end phone release from HTC this year? We hope so, I think most people who’ve used HTC devices previously would like to see the company return to favour in the market.
What do you think of this leak?
