Kogan Nexus 6
Kogan are one of only two Australian online retailers currently offering the elusive Nexus 6 for pre-order. Their initial pre-order was advising customers that the phone would ship from their warehouses on the 28th of November.

It appears that Kogan won’t be able to meet the November 28th shipping date though with customers checking the Nexus 6 product pages now being told that the phone will ship on January 12th. Last night, Kogan has also began sending emails to their customers advising that date has slipped, giving customers the choice of either riding out the delay, or receiving a full refund (which can take up to 7 days). Ausdroid reader Craig has kindly supplied the full email below :

Thank you for purchasing the Motorola Google Nexus 6 from Kogan.com

As we are sure you are aware, demand for the newly released Nexus 6 has exceeded everyone’s expectations. Based on previous announcements about the Nexus 6, we were expecting to ship your order well before November 28th. The recent lack of definitive information in the market about the Nexus 6 and apparent delays has forced us to push our estimated dispatch date to January 12th.

We understand that this is not the best news and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you. We appreciate that this new ship date may not be suitable, so would like to offer you the following two options:

Option 1.
Wait for your Motorola Google Nexus 6 until the new ship date of 12th January (Rest assured that we will be working hard to get this to you even sooner where possible!)

Option 2.
Receive a full refund for this product. Please note: refunds can take up to 7 days to appear in your account after processing.

Simply reply to this email with “1” or “2” to let us know how you would like to proceed.

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to hearing from you soon!

We spoke to the Kogan online support team, who confirmed the delay, advised the reason and assured us they are still trying to get the phone to customers as soon as possible :

The demand for the newly released Nexus 6 has exceeded everyone’s expectations. I can confirm that the dispatch date for the Motorola Google Nexus 6 has been extended to 12th of January. Rest assured that we are doing our best to have it delivered at the soonest possible time.

The support team went on to confirm that Kogan Nexus 6 stock was being sourced from overseas, which is likely the cause for their expected delay.

So, what can you do? Options for getting the Nexus 6 in Australia are fairly limited.

Google has advised that there are no official timelines for the Nexus 6 to go up for pre-order in Google Play in Australia, beyond that the phone will be available ‘before Christmas’. But there are no guarantees of stock levels when it does finally hit the Australia Google Play store. In the US, stock of the Nexus 6 is being refreshed weekly on a Wednesday, but has so far remained unattainable for most customers who have had to revert to purchasing through carriers.

The other option is the other online retailer Yatango, formerly Mobicity who are advising that their stock of the Nexus 6, which is being sourced from a local Motorola supplier here in Australia, will arrive around mid-December. It’s also marginally cheaper than Kogan’s pricing for either model, with the bonus of free shipping for Yatango Shopping members.

There’s no denying the Nexus 6, despite its size, is a massively popular phone. There’s also some rumblings now after the continued delay of the Moto X Gen 2, and scant supply of the Moto 360, that perhaps Motorola wasn’t the best choice of company to make a Nexus phone. Either way, Kogan customers have a choice to make today, so it’s going to be interesting to see what happens.

Did you pre-order a Nexus 6 from Kogan? Will you be holding out for the January release date or getting a refund and purchasing elsewhere?
