We’re approaching the launch of the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P and while it appears that Optus and Vodafone are offering the Nexus 6P, so far we haven’t seen a carrier offering the Nexus 5X, but it appears that’s because Telstra seems to have an exclusive on it, but won’t be offering the Nexus 6P as far as we can tell.
The Nexus 5X is now showing in the Telstra system as available from November 3rd, with pre-orders most likely to be announced between the 26th and 28th of October, in line with timing we’ve seen from Optus and Vodafone. Colour options seem to be limited to Black with Telstra, with just a single sku listed on the upcoming Go Mobile Plans, fortunately it appears that Telstra has decided to go with the 32GB model, leaving the 16GB option out.
Telstra will be offering the Nexus 5X on a range of Go Mobile plans starting at $55 per month with a $15 handset repayment, but will most likely be pushing the $70 per month option with $0 handset repayments. As you can see there are a number of options if you want more data etc.
Stock wise, there’s been reports of new Nexus 5X handsets sitting in the back rooms of at least some Telstra stores across Australia under lock and key, a promising development with regards to availability of stock.
The LG Nexus 5X is probably best suited to areas with better reception as it doesn’t appear to have received the coveted ‘Blue Tick’ Telstra rating that means better coverage for customers in regional and rural areas. The Nexus 5X does carry compatibility with the Telstra 4GX network so you can bet that carrier aggregation will be on offer where available on the Telstra network.
At this stage, Telstra hasn’t officially announced anything with regards to the Nexus 5X, but the information we’ve been supplied appears to be legitimate. We’re hoping to receive more official announcements ahead of the phone going up for pre-order in the next few days.
