Following a series of leaks leading up to the event Sony have officially announced the Xperia XZ at IFA in Berlin. It’s unclear if this is the next device in Sony’s X or Z line or if it is supposed to be the pinnacle of both?
Either way, the Xperia XZ is a typically Sony device with an elongated ‘forehead and chin’ look and rounded edges. The XZ is packing a 5.2″ FHD display with a Snapdragon 820 SOC paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
That sits alongside a 23MP rear facing sensor that Sony says is their best yet incorporating their Exmor RS sensor, laser autofocus and an IR sensor for colour and white balancing. Rounding out the device is a 13 MP frobt shooter, Fingerprint sensor NFC and all the standard connectivity.

Sony will as usual be delivering a range of Style Cover Stand and Style Cover Touch cases for the phone, which will be available to purchase separately at launch.
The Xperia XZ will launch globally in October this year, at this stage we’ve had no confirmation on pricing or an Australian launch of the device. With Sony releasing so many devices onto the market perhaps this will be the one that succeeds?
