It looks like Australia might be getting a new Motorola phone – but it’s probably not the one you’ve been waiting for.. According to Harvey Norman’s website, who have been a launch partner with Moto on other recent devices, the unlocked Moto G4 Play is about to go on sale down under for $299.
We’ve checked the Moto Australia store and there’s no sign of the Moto G4 Play so it looks like Harvey Norman may have jumped the gun on this one – as they did on the Moto 360 Sport.
So what’s in the G4 Play? The 5″ HD device has a Snapdragon 410 paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The Moto G4 Play is a typically Moto looking device with a familiar design and the signature imple on the rear. While the device doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor some models have NFC so we are hopeful this may be an affordable device that will be com[patable with Android Pay and other NFC services.
At present the device is showing as out of stock at every store I tried, and the few stores I called confirmed tat stock is still on order. We haven’t heard anything official from Lenovo or Motorola but with “stock on order” I would think the news will break any day now.
This will be the third recent device that Moto has offered in Australia joining the Moto X Force for $599, the Moto G4 Plus for $399 and now the Moto G4 Play for $299. That gives Moto/ Lenovo a device option for most budgets. We were impressed with the lower priced Moto G1 through 3 so we’re looking forward to giving the Moto G4 Play a review.
