According to a posting on Samsung’s Korean Newsroom, current Galaxy Note 7 owners, in Samsung’s home market of Korea, will be eligible for either a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge at half price, and then once the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note 8 is released in 2017 they would be further eligible for a FREE upgrade to either of those devices. That’s quite a deal.
That’s right, an S7/ Edge for half price and a free upgrade to the 2017 Galaxy 8 line up. Unfortunately this offer is only in Korea at the moment, however, the program may roll out wider depending on how different markets are progressing.
The big news here, however, is the direct reference to the Note 8 device, many people have been speculating that “the Note brand is dead”. As is often the case in these situations the rumours of the Note’s death seem to have been greatly exaggerated, on a side ‘note’ if Samsung doesn’t use that in their Note 8 marketing, perhaps with a Kingsman 2 tie-in, I’ll be extremely disappointed.
This seems to put to bed all the speculation that Samsung would only release one Flagship a year, or that they would re-brand the line. I have to say killing the Note brand did feel a little like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. What will be important is how Samsung communicates what the root cause of the Note 7 issues was and how they will be prevented in future devices.
