It seems that the leaked renders of a 2017 Moto X may have in fact been the Moto G5 Plus. According to an individual selling an almost identical device online in Romania, they claim to be in possession of a prototype Moto G5 Plus, and the images do look rather convincing. The tell-take marks in the top left and right corners of the device indicate that the device is almost certainly an official Motorola sample.
If this Romanian guy does indeed have a Moto G5 Plus up for sale then we can expect him to have some rather quick reprisals from Moto, I can’t imagine the there are a lot of these in the wild. The seller lists the specs as:
- 5.5″ 1080p Full HD display
- Octa-core Snapdragon 625 with Adreno 506
- 4GB RAM
- 32 GB storage
- 13 MP rear camera
- 5 MP cameras front facing camera
- Fingerprint sensor
- NFC
- 3080 mAh battery
- Micro USB power (very disappointing, even on the G range in 2017)
- Android 7.0 Nougat
The device definitely looks like Lenovo’s latest range of Moto devices with the large circular camera bump (seriously Lenovo, keep the circle, drop the bump), it’s hard to tell if this is an all metal phone or if it’s metal look plastic or a hybrid. The Moto G range is Moto’s affordable range so either is possible.
The seller is claiming that the device will come to market in March this year, and while that lines up with the end of MWC in Barcelona its a few months early for an annual cycle. While not outside the realms of possibility, it would, however, be odd.
The Moto G range is incredibly popular with its marriage of good hardware, great software and affordable pricing. I see Moto G3 and G4 devices everywhere and I’ve steered many people in recent times to buy the Moto G4 Plus including my mother and Aunty (I need to go on commission).
Have you tried the Moto G range? Would you consider a Moto G5?
