Motorola Moto X4 goes official with dual-cameras and IP68 water/dust proofing

IFA is in full swing and this morning Motorola has taken to the stage to announce the Moto X4.

The fourth generation Moto X device has come along way since the heady days of reviving the Motorola brand. The once top of the line handset is now a super mid-range phone which will be priced at €399 when it launches in Europe next month. The phone does bring a few new features including dual-camera setup and IP68 water/dustproofing to the Moto X line.

Motorola have built the X4 around the Snapdragon 630 SoC with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM depending on region. 32GB or 64GB of storage – again, dependent on region – are on offer, but a microSD card slot will back that up quite nicely.

The dual-camera includes a standard 12MP sensor, with an 8MP secondary sensor that’s behind a wide-angle lens. A 16MP selfie camera with LED flash on the front rounds out the specs, but it’s the software that has a couple of new tricks. The first is Landmark Detection which will recognise ‘objects of interest’ in the photo and ask if you want to learn more about it – this includes the option to scan in business cards.

Motorola will launch the phone with Android 7.1 on board, and it will be mostly stock with a few features like Amazon Alexa compatability built-in (region dependent of course). A new gesture – three finger screenshot – has been added, as well as Moto Key, a password manager that will let you access passwords on phone or laptop.
