KLP to LMP Logo
Android L, as it was announced at Google I/O is a fairly bland name when it comes to the lexicon of Android release names. Beginning from the C release of Android, we’ve been treated to a range of updates named after sugary treats, when the Key Lime Pie release of Android was renamed to KitKat in a co-branding exercise last year, the KLP debugging icon was apparently retired, but it could see new life as the icon for Lemon Meringue Pie, if hints from the Android SDK and AOSP are true.

Android Police found mentions of LMP within the Android L Preview SDK, is a file called ‘cardview-v7-21.0.0-rc1.aar’, located in extras/android/m2repository/com/android/support/cardview-v7/21.0.0-rc1/. Within the file are numerous mentions of ‘lmp-preview-release’, for example :

file:/usr/local/google/buildbot/repo_clients/https___googleplex-android.googlesource.com_a_platform_manifest.git/lmp-preview-release/frameworks/support/v7/cardview/res/values/colors.xml

Further evidence exists within the Android Open Source Project itself, with a search for LMP showing up no less than nine results:
AOSP - LMP Search

LMP could be Lemon Meringue Pie, or it could be short for anything really, but the money is definitely on Lemon Meringue Pie, at least for now. We here of course would love to see an Android Lamington release of Android – perhaps a small delivery of Lamingotns to Google HQ in Sydney may be a start?
