As expected, Google has today released the January security update for Android, with patches released for Android and updates for Pixel and Nexus devices now available.

As with previous releases there’s two levels of patches available, with a January 1st patch and January 5th patch available, with the January 5th patch the most comprehensive. The list of Common Vulnerability and Exposures are listed on the Android Security blog with the Jan 1st patch including patches for 1 critical, 10 high and 3 moderate vulnerabilities while the Jan 5th patch includes all these as well as an additional 9 critical, 17 high and 9 moderate vulnerabilities.

Over on the Factory Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices page, Google has released patches for their own devices including the Pixel devices (yes the Pixel C too) and the rest of the still supported Nexus devices which includes the Nexus 5X, 6P, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player. The Nexus 6 is still supported, but there doesn’t appear to be a factory image available for this model as yet.

If you’re in a hurry you can flash your Nexus/Pixel with the Factory Image, or use the provided OTA or you can just wait for the Jan 5th patch to roll out via OTA in the next few days.
