There’s a lot of differing opinions on Facebook home, mostly surrounding how it’s implemented and whether Facebook is secretly launching an assault on the Android homescreen, but Matias Duarte has spoken with ABCNews in the US about his thoughts on the design of the new launcher.
With other Google executives such as Eric Schmidt coming out to back the way Facebook has implemented Home, Matias Duarte also comes across as supporting the way it was implemented and supporting the overall design, saying
The new Facebook Home shows an incredible amount of polish and attention to design detail, and that didn’t come from a hardware manufacturer. With the Home experience, they did a nice job expressing the Facebook experience, but so much of the Google design experience with Ice Cream Sandwich [Android 4.0] was in there as well.
Coming from the director of Android Operating System User Experience that is heady praise, especially with many in the tech industry supporting the design language that Matias has implemented in the latest iterations of Android.
When asked about other OEM customised skins such as Touchwiz, Matias wouldn’t comment on phones like the Galaxy S4 itself, however he did say that he is excited ‘about a trend where people have more designers involved in their customisations of Android. The work we do with the Google apps fits more seamless with it’.
