Video streaming is becoming a hot topic in Australia ahead of an Australian launch of international video streaming juggernaut Netflix in March. While Streamco service Stan launched last month, they were already playing catchup to Foxtel offering Presto which launched their TV offerings earlier this year, though only for tablets. Today Presto has advised that they have updated their app to now support a range of mobile phones.
The announcement lists a number of handsets included in the initial rollout, including phones Apple iPhone handsets but specifically names Android handsets manufactured by Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony and ZTE. The app isn’t currently live in Google Play (or the Samsung App Store) but is expected to be later today.
Samsung | HTC | Sony | LG | ZTE |
---|---|---|---|---|
Galaxy Note 3 | Desire 610 | Xperia Z2 | G3 | Dave (Telstra) |
Galaxy Note 4 | HTC One Mini 2 | Xperia Z3 | ||
Note Edge | HTC One (M8) | Xperia Z3 Compact | ||
Galaxy S4 with 4G | ||||
While it’s a limited assortment, bear in mind that Netflix is about to arrive with their app and service available on just about any phone, tablet or device you care to mention, so the pressure is on Presto to deliver more handset support quickly if they want to retain or grow market share.
Presto offers a tiered payment system for their service, based on what type of content (TV or Movies) you want to enjoy. Plans start from $9.99 a month for either Presto TV or Presto Movies or you can bundle both services together for $14.99 a month with the Presto Entertainment bundle. The plans are sold on a month-to-month basis, so there’s no ongoing commitment.
Presto offers a wide range of movies from major motion picture studios such as MGM, Sony, 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney, Warner Bros. and more, and their TV offerings include content from international networks such as HBO, ShowTime, CBS, Viacom and local content from Foxtel, the Seven network and the ABC.
If you’ve been waiting for Presto to arrive on your phone then hopefully your handset is included. If you haven’t tried out Presto, with the no commitment plans it’s definitely worth giving it a shot at least once.
