Instagram has today launched a new app for Android (and iOS), which stitches together quick burst photos into a short video – yep, it makes animated GIFs. Called Boomerang, the app stitches up to 10 photos together, speeds up the resulting video and then loops it.
It looks pretty simple, you can use the front or rear cameras and then it’s simply a matter of tapping the circle at the bottom of the screen and it does the rest. Once you’re done you can share to Instagram or Facebook. In theory you can share them anywhere from your camera roll, but it appears that some users are having issues sharing to Twitter according to their help page (we’re sure this will be fixed post-haste).
Boomerang operates outside of Instagram so you don’t need an instagram account to use the app or share the ‘Boomerang’, but if you do you can apply all the usual Instagram filters and tools before you do.
Looks pretty neat if you want to create animated gifs, download Boomerang and give it a go, it’s free on Google Play right now.
