After rumours have circulated for years about Google offering a streaming TV service through YouTube, this morning the company has finally gone ahead and done it.
Priced at $35US per month, YouTube TV is a no-contract service meaning you can cancel at anytime. The service will offer live TV streaming from major US networks ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC as well as sports channel ESPN and smaller regional sports networks as well as cable channels.
The service will also offer a cloud DVR, with no storage limits, and access to YouTube Red Originals, the original programming YouTube introduced last year.
Customers will be able to access the service on almost any screen that has YouTube including tablets, phones and of course computers. You can also Chromecast it.
It’s of course a US-only service so it’s unlikely we’ll see it expand here with the current content deals in place with terrestrial TV stations here in Australia. There is of course the old VPN option, which we’re going to try out, if you too want to check it out you can head to tv.youtube.com
