Linux on Dex is a very interesting product; it takes your existing phone or tablet (provided its compatible) and turns it into a fully functional desktop option running Ubuntu Linux.
It was originally available to the Tab S4 and Note 9 shortly after launch, but the product range is now expanding to include the Galaxy S9/S9+ S10e/S10/S10+/5G and Tab S5e.
Essentially the range has been expanded to all devices that have sufficient specs to handle a desktop environment running on it which is a great step forward towards a genuinely integrated and connected lifestyle.
We have been taking a look at Linux on Dex and for someone in a mobile workforce, needing access to all the usual array of applications that isn’t quite served by a tablet – it’s a potential winner in reducing the amount of gear and weight you need to carry.
If you’ve got one of the supported devices and want to check it out, follow this link and follow the bouncing ball. Be aware though, that it is a big download and will take some time to install – so perhaps set it going overnight.
It is well worth investigating if you have a curiosity about turning your mobile into a desktop, or if you have a need that is met by the environment.
