Along the way, Google have had some interesting ideas. Opinion Rewards is a really interesting way to grab a bit of extra data from users. The premise is simple, Like it or not, Android tracks your location (so does Apple) and they use this to identify stores and locations you’ve visited.
By expanding on this, Google will over time send you requests to give your Opinion on places you’ve visited. This will reward you with some coin getting added to your Google Play account.
Yes, its more data they’re gathering about you. Yes, some people will call this invasion of privacy. Your location is already known to Google anyway, they use this data to improve your experience on Android generally – including quick location when you start up Google Maps. Frankly the data you’re being asked for is stuff Google already know, wanting a bit more granular detail or confirming that their data is in fact accurate.
It’s a nice way to grab a bit of money for sharing your data, I’ve rented or purchased a lot of apps and movies for the kids. If it’s something you would like to check out and haven’t, head to the Play Store and give it a crack.
