There are a number of good, free options for content monitoring and management of kids’ screen time. They are, however, somewhat limited in some functionality and what they monitor. The Bark app is a step up with some pretty nifty monitoring solutions to ensure your kid’s safety — including mental health — is maintained online.

As mentioned, the Google Family monitoring is very good but when compared, the Bark app takes it to another level with features including:
- Content blocking
- The ability to pause the internet on connected devices
- Customised rules for bedtime
- Parental Alerts for dangerous activities and content
- Excellent screen time scheduling
As a parent who is delving into the world of kids having more access to online services and activities, the protection for them and peace of mind for me seem like something worth exploring.
