Vodafone hosted a media briefing at their North Sydney HQ this morning to reveal updated prepaid Cap pricing plans and a revamped activation and recharging experience for customers.
Mehul Dave, Vodafone’s General Manager of Prepay & SIM Only, revealed that Vodafone’s new Cap plans offer two-to-three-times the data inclusion, with bonus data allowances on offer for those who recharge online, or through the MyVodafone app.

Unsurprisingly, the $50 plan is the focus of Vodafone’s attention here with “infinite” local calls, texts and international calls to landlines and mobiles in ten countries. Those countries are: China, India, the USA, the UK, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and South Korea. Vodafone’s hoping to attract both visitors who want to call home while they’re in Australia, and Australian residents with family abroad with this offer, which is good through to January 6 2015. After that time, or when you call other countries inside the promotional period, your international calls will come out of the $50 credit.
The carrier also unveiled a new activation and recharge experience for users that will work on-device, so you can put a SIM into a new device and activate it on that device – whether it’s a phone, a tablet or a PC. Customers will also be able to see their account balance information in real-time and recharge in a few clicks. The new process is responsive, so it’ll always look right for the device on which you’re using it.
Vodafone’s also going to start accepting payments via PayPal, and envisages that this might even start to replace recharge vouchers in the future, although they also emphasised that the voucher system won’t be going away any time soon.
