Samsung won’t be updating two devices of theirs to Android 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’. Those two devices are the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab (7-inch) — both have fairly good specs, so you would think an update would be possible, however, it’s not. Samsung is blaming themselves because Android 4.0 with TouchWiz won’t fit on the devices in terms of ROM and RAM. Here’s a perfect example of why carrier skins have more negatives than positives.

HTC had this exact problem with the Gingerbread update for the HTC Desire — the update couldn’t fit on the device because Android 2.3 + Sense UI took up too much of the hardware resources. HTC did manage to push out a stripped-down version of Android 2.3 for the Desire which contained less applications but still included parts of Sense UI. Samsung are saying they won’t do this as it will affect the customer’s experience.
