Last November Adobe announced they would no longer develop Flash for Mobile, instead they would only supply security updates for the existing Android plugin, instead they would concentrate on Flash for the PC and mobile apps developed with Air. As this announcement came just after the introduction of Ice Cream Sandwich, some sort of deal was reached and Flash was soon available for Android 4.0. Chrome has Now that Jelly Bean has been announced they have taken to their blog to re-iterate that fact.
They advised that Flash is tightly integrated with the browser and multimedia subsytems and to ensure that they work correctly they need to be certified and this certification will not happen with Jelly Bean. They have also gone as far as to say that as of August 15th they will be using the Google Play Store controls to limit access to the Flash plugin to devices that already have it installed. They go as far as to say
The current version of Flash Player may exhibit unpredictable behavior, as it is not certified for use with Android 4.1. Future updates to Flash Player will not work. We recommend uninstalling Flash Player on devices which have been upgraded to Android 4.1.
Well, I don’t know about anyone else but my usage of any website with Flash has been seriously nose-diving of late, especially once Chrome which doesn`t support Flash, came out. I personally wasn’t particularly surprised by this information as it’s really just re-enforcing what they said back in November, what do you think?
