This time next week, when pre-orders are in the hands of users and even stores should have them on shelves, the saga of actually getting your hands on a Nexus 7 will be forgotten. Until then there are still people out there who pre-ordered whilst the Google IO Keynote was in progress and still have not received a shipping notifiacation. Google has finally released an update on the shipping process citing ‘incredible demand’ for some delays in shipping. The full statement reads :

An update on Nexus 7 pre-order shipping status
We’ve had incredible demand for our new Nexus 7 tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible. When your device ships you will receive a notification from Google Play with a shipping tracking number. We will have all orders placed through July 13 processed and shipped soon. Orders placed after July 13 will ship according to the quoted timeframe when you purchased and we will update you with a tracking number when we’ve shipped. Thanks for your patience.

They then go on to address Australia specifically :

In Australia:
All Nexus 7 8GB and Nexus 7 16GB orders will be fulfilled by the end of day on July 19 (AEST) and will arrive in 3-5 days.

Well it’s no comfort to customers who placed orders early and seen others receive shipping notifications who ordered some days after them but as I said this time next week this will all just be a bad memory.

Update :
Pretty much everyone still waiting for a pre-order at this stage just received an email from Google Play :

Hello,

We wanted to send you an update on your Nexus 7 pre-order. We’ve had incredible demand for the new tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible. Your tablet will ship by July 19.

If you’d like more detailed information on device shipments, please reference our online Help Center at http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2667319.

Thanks for your patience. Your Nexus 7 will be on its way soon.

You have received this mandatory email service announcement to update you on your Nexus 7 product pre-order.

We’ve also been advised (Thanks Tia) that if you call Google Support and ask about your supposed 2 Day shipping you’ll be advised that this is actually their standard flat rate shipping charge, My response to that (Minus expletives) is ‘Why mention 2 Day shipping in the first place?’.
