It was a big weekend for Apple, a $1.049 Billion weekend to be exact, which will obviously be appealed again and again through every avenue that is available in the US. Samsung and Apple both put out statements but the statement we have been waiting for has been from Google who have advised TheVerge today :

The court of appeals will review both infringement and the validity of the patent claims. Most of these don’t relate to the core Android operating system, and several are being re-examined by the US Patent Office. The mobile industry is moving fast and all players — including newcomers — are building upon ideas that have been around for decades. We work with our partners to give consumers innovative and affordable products, and we don’t want anything to limit that.

The main ‘event’ if you will is personally what I’m waiting for, in other words Apple vs Google. Google has pretty much stayed out of the whole patent debate except for recent comments to say that software patents are hurting innovation. Apple has made no moves so far to directly challenge Android by going directly to Google instead taking on Samsung, HTC and Motorola. Now that Google owns Motorola we have seen a recent lawsuit from Motorola seeking the halt of importation of Apple products based on some of their newly acquired patents, but really it gets down to will we ever actually see an Apple vs Google or iOS vs Android patent battle in a court room?
