At an event for the LG Optimus Vu launch in India, Amit Gujral, the head of Mobile Product Planning for LG has confirmed to Indian publication ibnlive that the LG Nexus exists and is due to be unveiled at Googles October 29th ‘The Playground is Open’ event in New York, he also has confirmed specifications for the device saying that the phone will ‘feature a 4.7-inch screen, run Android 4.2 OS, and will be powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor’.
The name of the phone really needs to be settled, Gujral calls the phone the LG Nexus and given that the Nexus 7 name refers to screen size; naming the phone the Nexus 4 without supplying a 4″ screen would be a mistake. Also given the fact that there can not be a Nexus 6 without consulting with the estate of Phillip K Dick over the Nexus 6 Androids in Bladerunner/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, the convention of naming the 4th generation Nexus phone the Nexus 4 really can’t continue. I would prefer to see the phone named simply the LG Optimus Nexus and be done with it.
Based on the specs given, I think we can pretty much say that the LG Nexus phone will be the E960 which has been widely leaked and even reviewed online. So all we can do is wait for confirmation of hardware, price and availability and a real look at what Android 4.2 has in store, all of which will be revealed next Tuesday morning Australian time.
