HTC is no stranger to pushing the technical boundaries early in the product cycle, they were one of the first to implement the 720p display (in the Rezound), and they were one the first to implement a 1080p display in the 5-inch Butterfly. Now it looks like they might be squeezing that 1080p display down to 4.7-inches.

Unwired View — specifically the trusted @evleaks — is reporting that HTC are working on a successor to the HTC One X which is currently codenamed “M7”. It will apparently have a 4.7-inch 1080p display (that’s 469ppi!) that will be powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 CPU which pulls the juice from a 2300mAh — a welcome improvement over the 2030mAh battery in the Butterfly.

HTC is also expected to launch Sense 5 alongside the M7 which will hopefully be atop of Android 4.2.1. All the other impressive specs can be seen above so there’s not much else to say about them, other than they look awesome on paper. The inclusion of 802.11ac is worth noting, as it’s the latest Wi-Fi standard that is 3x faster than 802.11n.

If you’re an audio fanatic, then you’ll be happy to know that the M7 is expected to have a Beats-designed amplifier, and improvements to sound quality during calls dubbed “Clear Words”. All of the audio will be pumped out of stereo speakers.

There’s no launch date noted, however, with CES and Mobile World Congress just around the corner, we can expect to see HTC launching a range of products there.
