Sony Z and ZL

We’re coming into the start of 2013 and the lead-up to one of the biggest technology events of the year: CES 2013. This year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is no doubt going to be filled with hopes and dreams, but whether or not they’ll turn into real devices is questionable. These two devices — seen above — from Sony, dubbed the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, are expected to be real devices at the show.

Both of these slab phones feature 5-inch 1080p LCD displays, which is clearly the benchmark for high-end displays now, unless HTC can pull off that 4.7-inch 1080p display. Other specs on both devices include 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon CPUs with 2GB of RAM, Adreno 320 graphics, and 13MP Exmor RS cameras on the back.

The Xperia ZL (right) features a smaller bezel, repositioned front-camera — appears to be better for landscape orientation — and a LED notification light. It’s also likely to expect LTE in both of these devices. We’ll know for sure once Sony unveils them at CES next week.
