Today at Qualcomm’s keynote address at CES, they introduced a new range of mobile processor chips that throws away the S3 and S4 moniker that we’re currently using. Instead, the new range is broken down into Snapdragon 200, Snapdragon 400, Snapdragon 600, and Snapdragon 800. Snapdragon 200 and 400 are low-end chips that you’re not likely to find in high-end devices, instead they’re for budget devices. If you’re after pure power, Snapdragon 600 and 800 is what you want.
Snapdragon 600 takes off where Snapdragon S4 left off. It’s used in today’s power-hungry devices with 1.5GHz quad-core CPUs and Adreno 320 graphics processor. The Snapdragon 800 is the new premium high-end chip which clocks in at 2.3GHz per each Krait 400 core, an Android 320 CPU and faster LTE baked into the chip as well — something Tegra 4 cannot do. Wi-Fi 802.11ac is built-in, as is QFHD video recording and support for resolutions up to 2560×2048.
Qualcomm apparently has 50 devices lined up to use these new range of ships. Snapdragon 600 will arrive around Q2, and Snapdragon will arrive around the middle of the year. Impressive stuff, indeed.
