Lovers of home media setups will probably be familiar with Plex. Plex is a suite of applications which allow you to serve media from your home computer to other devices, which can themselves run a Plex client application or have embedded support for UPNP media discovery and playback. I personally have a MacMini with a 1TB hard drive attached which I record TV shows to, and play them back from using Plex Server and our PS3 for playback.
Plex has clients for a range of mobile devices too, including Android, and their Android app has just been updated to version 3.0. Subscribers to Plex’ Plexpass service (like me) have been able to trial this software for awhile now, and I can tell you it offers some pretty sweet features. Plex for Android has been rewritten from scratch and its new features include:
- Brand new layout and flow for playing media locally as well as controlling other Plex devices;
- Support for offline sync, meaning you can download your media content to view on the run, all within the app; and
- Better playback support with a range of options to improve viewing experience.
