Stand aside, Huawei Ascend P6! Your short reign is over. Less than a week after Huawei unveiled the Ascend P6, Umeox have officially announced the Umeox X5, a 5.6mm thick mid-range phone.

At just over half a centimetre, the Umeox X5 has stolen the belt from the Ascend P6 by 0.58mm to become the new thinness champion. The Umeox X5 packs in a 5.3-inch screen (with unknown resolution), dual-core processor, 8 megapixel rear camera, 3 megapixel front-facing camera, and will run Android 4.2. Although its screen is larger and the device itself is thinner, the X5 has lower-end specs than the Ascend P6, which is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU.

Unlike most Chinese phones, GSM Insider is reporting that the Umeox X5 will actually be sold in Europe, being available in France ‘sometime in summer’. Some of these Chinese phones are actually quite good (the Oppo Find 5 is a pretty awesome phone), and considering how cheap they usually are compared with the competition, it’s nice to see them being sold officially outside of China. Although personally, I prefer a thicker device with a bigger battery and better performance, there is definitely a market for cheap, thin phones, and this could well be dominated by the Chinese manufacturers.
