NVIDIA haven’t really been known for building and selling their own devices as such, their first complete consumer device that’s sold under their own branding is the Android based handheld gaming system – Shield, but it seems they wish to branch out into more hardware devices with the announcement yesterday of the Tegra Note platform.
NVIDIA have now officially become a manufacturer of their own Android device tablet, officially announcing the Tegra Note tablet – a 7″ stock Android running devices that comes with a Stylus for the low entry price of $199 US.
The Tegra Note has an extremely precise built-in stylus with multiple tips, and a camera that can capture HDR images and slow motion footage thanks to the computational photography capabilities of the Tegra 4 chip found powering the device.
The full specs of device include:
- 1280 x 800 resolution IPS 7″ display
- Tegra 4 SoC
- quad-core Cortex-A15 CPU
- 72-core GeForce GPU
- front-facing speakers
- Chimera architecture for advanced imaging features
- 16GB of onboard storage expandable via microSD slot
- micro HDMI socket
- built-in stylus that offers both chisel and brush tips
- Stock Android (though no version confirmed at this stage which stock Android the device is running)
The device is being expected to be sold through manufacturers who would then in turn apply their own branding to the device, however the company is taking a page out of its GeForce graphics business and supplying partners like EVGA and ZOTAC with tablets that are ready to go.
It is expected the NVIDIA Tegra Note will go on sale from October, tho no firm date nor statement providing if or when the device might be coming our way here to Australia.
