We’re all getting a little antsy regarding a launch of the Nexus 5, we’ve seen it over and over again – mostly ‘accidentally’ from the official source – we’ve seen it’s internals and externals multiple times and we even know a starting price; but we don’t have an official release date yet. What we do have is rumours, and today there’s one more.
There’s been multiple rumours regarding release dates for the Nexus 5, we received a tip that it would be announced October 14th, but it seems that, that was apparently the technical acceptance date. The Kit Kat Google+ site has gone to town messing with Android fans with supposed hidden messages in seemingly innocuous pictures they’ve released, but overnight, MobileSyrup received a tip that the phone may launch in Google Play on October 31st – Halloween in the US, in keeping with the candy bar theme of Kit Kat. Their tip also states that the phone will launch on Canadian carriers – Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Koodo and Virgin – on November 7th or 8th.
While Australian carriers last year skipped the Nexus 4, with Telstra claiming the lack of LTE led to the decision, this year they will have no such excuse. It will then come down to whether Google or LG handle the updates for the device as to whether consumers will be willing to trust a carrier on a Nexus device again, as the way updates were and still are handled by Samsung for the Galaxy Nexus is an absolute travesty.
Hopefully we see an event soon, then we can start asking Australian carriers if they intend to carry the device and get to the nitty gritty on updates.
