After launching in November last year, the Motorola Moto G became the best selling phone for Motorola, so it’s only natural that Motorola is working on a successor, most likely due to launch around the same time as the original did last year. It seems that Motorola are pretty far along with testing the new phone with a new entry appearing in GFXBench claiming to be the Motorola Moto G2 – or at least the XT1063.
The Moto G is listed under model # X1032, and if this entry is the Moto G2, then it will be the XT1063, but like anything, there’s no guarantees till it launches. The phone in GFXBench lists specs that would make for a respectable, though minor update to the Moto G.
As you can see if this is indeed the Moto G2, the phone will retain the same 720P display but increasing the display size from 4.5″ to 5″, it will also come with the same 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB RAM. There is an update on the camera front, with the rear camera increasing in resolution from 5MP to 7MP and the 1.3MP Front-facing camera will see selfie addicts satisfied with a bump to 2MP.
Software wise, the phone will come – at this stage – with Android 4.4.4, but with an expected November release date looming for Android L, and Motorola’s responsive moves towards delivering updates to their handsets, it wouldn’t be too far out there to expect the G2 to launch with Android L.
Seems the Moto G2 could be a simple update on some basics like the screen size and cameras, but then again, it’s conceivable that someone has faked the entry in GFXBench too. We’re still some ways out from any announcement so we’ll have to stay tuned for more details as the year progresses.
