Target - Vodafone - Huawei Ascend G526
4G is becoming the new standard for communications in Australia, most carriers are pushing their LTE plans and spruiking the coverage they offer. But one thing that has so far failed to emerge are super affordable 4G phones. But from Thursday, the 30th of October, Target will begin selling the Huawei Ascend G526 Vodafone pre-paid handset for just $99.

It’s not the first time that the phone has hit the price point, but for a 4G compatible phone, it’s not a bad option – if you’re wanting a handset on the Vodafone network. The phone is of course locked, but you can talk with Vodafone about getting it unlocked if you want to go elsewhere, they’ll unlock it for a small fee.

Huawei Ascend G526 - Target Catalogue

The Huawei Ascend G526 isn’t going to blow you away spec wise, but it will do the job. It’s got a decent 4.5″ qHD (960×540) resolution screen with a Dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. The phone also comes 4GB of storage and a microSD card slot which supports cards up to 32GB, a good thing too with a fairly decent 5MP rear camera with Auto Focus on the back.

The phone comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with a light Huawei skin on top, it’s not the Emotion UI that’s come in on later handsets so it should be fairly good. If you’re in the market for a cheap 4G phone, this may not be a bad deal to look at. Head into Target from this Thursday to grab one.
