Last week we saw evidence of Android 5.1 out in the wild and as per normal many of us are checking our devices constantly waiting for it to arrive. A full point release is unusual at this time of the year, with Google preferring the smaller increments such as 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 etc. The fact that they have designated this one a full point release suggests that the update will entail some big changes. We have yet to see a bug fix release get a full point release. So what are we expecting with 5.1?
Back in mid December I saved a post I saw on XDA to my Pocket account and randomly came across it today. Back then AndroidPIT heard from a tipster that Android 5.1 would be arriving in early February which was then confirmed by an independent source who was “privy to important information regarding Android updates”. The information they received about the update included the following:
- Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0
- General improvements in system stability
- Improved RAM management
- Fixes for sudden app closures
- Improved battery management
- Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
- Issues with wireless connections fixed
- Problems with Okay Google function solved
- Notifications problems solved
- Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
- Other improvements and changes
- Changes in the Material Design colour palette (after users complaints, possibly for a higher version though)
With our smallish sample of our readers here at Ausdroid, their/your sounding off in our comments sections time and time again it seems that Google do have a lot to fix on their big 5.0 Lollipop update. 5.0 was a big update and for me really was Android turning the corner with their UI, especially with Material Design.
What are your thoughts on Lollipop? Do you hate it as much as some or are you like me, happy with the update and can’t wait for it to mature?
