While the news is still developing on this one (the press conference is on now – Tune in now – the news is too big not to share. NVIDIA have just announced a new Nvidia SHIELD set top box, powered by Android TV with 4K UHD resolution.
Boasting graphic capability of 512GFLOPS (compared to XBox One at .5GB RAM and 240GFLOPS) and DirectX 12 compatability this is sure to offer gamers an amazing experience when it becomes available to the public.
The demo included a 30fps showing of Borderlands on the NVIDIA Shield – that’s right, Borderlands is coming to Android, well, at least to Shield – which is really impressive and Doom 3. Other games shown have some impressive graphics, puzzle solving challenges and some outstanding scenery to enjoy while you’re playing – and around 50 games will be available at launch including Crysis 3, and Resident Evil 5 and Nvidia will also make their NVIDIA GRID Game-Streaming Service available as well.
Nvidia has announced that the Shield Set Top Box will be available for US$199 including a controller already bundled, with the controller priced at US$160. Availability looks set to begin in May to US consumers.
Nvidia has yet to officially release a SHIELD product here in Australia as yet, but We will contact NVIDIA regarding an Australian release and hope for a positive response regarding an Australian launch.

The Shield console is now on the Nvidia Shield website, the Shield Console will have Plex pre-installed.
